Grayling can put a good bend in a fly rod – often times much bigger than most fishermen expect. But that’s another story… the above is just a cool photo taken last season at our OUTPOST camp.

This photo is taken 4 days after the summer solstice, the longest day of the year/summer (in the northern hemisphere). Official sunset time on the solstice is 11:33 pm, but it really doesn’t get “dark” until about 1:30 am. And …

What can separate a good week from a great week, or a mediocre trip from a life-changing experience, is who you’re fishing with – that can mean your guide, the other guests at camp with you, or even your own close friend who you thought might be able to handle fishing in the rain.

Looking through all the photos reminds us – even though great Alaska fishing is the core of the SAFARI camp experience, you could spend an entire season out here taking photos, hiking around and just plain exploring wild untouched wilderness.

2015 was the year of the pinks and silvers… we had the best silver salmon run in a decade or more, and without question, witnessed by far the largest pink salmon run we’ve ever seen.

Without question, 2015 was another incredibly strong season of fly fishing in Bristol Bay at our OUTPOST camp. It’s hard to believe, but it was perhaps even better than our 2014 season.

The 2015 Alaska fishing season is officially over for us. Both SAFARI and OUTPOST camps are broken down, packed up and stored until next summer. We’re all definitely ready for some rest now, but heading back home is always bittersweet… …
