Alaska Fishing Report, September, mid to late

09.30.11

Camp: SAFARI

The Fishing: Silver salmon fishing same as last report – they are around in good numbers but the bite is off (helicopter fly-outs good), still a few fresh chum salmon showing up, the pink salmon run is done (lots of carcasses along river banks), dolly fishing good (but ligther than normal) throughout river with many spawning colors showing, halibut and cod fishing still good in the bay.

Water Levels: Healthy.

The Weather: REALLY exceptional for this time of year. Colder. Fall colors excellent this season, day length noticeably shorter, the big mountain covered in fresh snow all month long and a few of the lower peaks dusted with snow showers last week (“termination dust” – the end of the season).

Other: Bears looking a little nervous as winter approaches, lots of ducks and geese flying through the bay on their trip south for warmer weather… sounds like a good plan.
