Alaska Fishing Report, September, early to mid
09.15.11
The Fishing: Silver salmon fishing has been odd this year – they did finally show in decent numbers (definitely lighter than normal, though) in our home waters but the bite was far from normal (the helicopter fly-outs still consistently very good), a few fresh pink salmon still showing up early September, fresh chum salmon still coming in, dolly fishing good (but lighter than normal) throughout river with some spawning colors showing, halibut and cod fishing still good.
Water Levels: Very healthy.
The Weather: Cooling off! Fall colors really popping out, had some crummy weather the first week of September and very heavy rain the second week, all snow melted off mountains on far side of bay, but our big mountain has had fresh powder on it since early September.
Other: Bear activity lighter, spending more time up the river valleys than in open meadows.
