Fishing Report for August, mid to late

09.01.12

Camp: SAFARI

The Fishing: Continued strong chum salmon, pink salmon and dolly varden fishing. First silver salmon caught 8/20 this season; momentum of silver run seems slow to build. Halibut fishing in the bay is very good. No cod caught lately (which is OK – this actually makes the halibut fishing better!)

Water Levels: Healthy.

The Weather: The mid to later part of August offered more cool and wet weather (typical so far across all of Alaska this season). The last [partial] week of August was heavenly weather.

Other: We continue to see LOTS of bears (we counted 18 separate bears in one sitting one evening – 8 of them cubs), with the occasional river otter sighting. Lots of seals working in the bay and chasing fish at high tide on the tidal flat. A few whales seen in the bay.
