Christmas Island

The widespread recognition of Christmas Island among flats fishing enthusiasts across North America is no mere coincidence. Among the vast array of saltwater flats destinations worldwide, Christmas Island stands out as a natural masterpiece, seamlessly combining all the essential elements for successful fly fishing. With expansive hard sand flats, abundant bonefish and trevally, and year-round consistent weather, this unique atoll offers an unparalleled fishing experience. The fly fishing guides at Christmas Island Outfitters have been carefully selected for their extensive experience, composure under pressure, and exceptional instructional skills.

Christmas Island is the world’s largest coral atoll and a virtual paradise for stalking bonefish. Having almost single-handedly brought the sport of fly-fishing for bonefish into the public consciousness, Christmas Island remains one of the best destinations in the world for both beginning and advanced saltwater anglers alike. The reasons for this are many. First, the island’s vast hard sand flats enable anglers to wade fish all day in relative solitude. Second, the flats hold great numbers of bonefish that cruise in shallow water, providing anglers with constant opportunities or “shots” throughout their visit. Lastly, but certainly not the least, the atoll’s proximity to the equator (less than 200 miles) has blessed Christmas Island with consistently good weather, which enables a quality fishing experience year-round. While most of the island’s bonefish average two- to four-pounds, fish in the five- to eight-pound class are always a real possibility, as are several species of trevally, including giants, plus triggerfish.

Our trip for 2026 will be out typical early December week

Trip: Christmas Island Outfitters - 12/1/26 - 12/8/26 6 open seats

Recife, Brazil

This program utilizes two distinct accommodations over the course of a week from which guests will have the opportunity to possibly fish five distinct river systems and their deltas. From mid-September through December, both juvenile and adult migratory tarpon will be present in certain river systems. The main fishing program is based out of Porto de Galinhas, were juvenile tarpon are most present. Unlike many destinations, this program has a true urban interface where the best fishing is located near a population-base making it uniquely Brazilian experience.

The Silver King Brazil team operates from fully equipped boats that prioritize comfort and safety, utilizing electric motors for movement and anchoring for pinpoint positioning. Guests will cast from the boats with saltwater floating, intermediate, and sinking lines and strip flies. The program centers around fishing the lower portion of five different river systems and their deltas near the ocean. These regions offer diverse structure, including mangroves, open channels, sunken trees, stone points, sandbars, bridges, and there may also be an opportunity to fish an ocean reef depending on conditions.  Your guides are very experienced fly anglers and speak English.

The accommodations are simple, clean, and very comfortable, providing all the necessary amenities such as air conditioning, fans, hot water, Wifi, and more. The main program has guests staying in Porto de Galinhas at a private house. It is a nice beachfront home with a chef and pool. Meals will be fresh and delicious with plenty of surf and turf options.
